The time of the year has approached. Amongst all the AS workload, revision, exams and coursework; Year 12 are being introduced to UCAS and all the joys of personal statements.

What do we write? How do we write it? Since when has writing about ourselves become so difficult?

As we are informed of all the dos and do not’s, the competitive standings and the statistics on being accepted, we are all becoming more and more nervous. How do we really secure a place?

Rachel Pallant, 17, a student from Old Palace of John Whitgift School commented, ‘There seems to be so much to do and it’s all about knowing the specifics of your course to really secure a place – that’s frightening!’

Personal statements are not due until mid-October, yet we are already having to decide specifics regarding our futures and will need to have serious thoughts in order to be fully prepared for the time when UCAS is due and our university careers can begin.
