A talented cast of pupils at Bishop Thomas Secondary school and sixth form performed a spectacular version of the well-known musical to parents, teachers and fellow pupils this month.

Over a two nights the pupils transported the audience back to 1920’s in New York. To the bright Broadway stages and the pinstriped hustle and bustle in which the musical was set. The performance came alive with the music played by a live orchestra and song and dance taught and choreographed by musical directors and choreographers with the school. The musical was directed and orchestrated by a team of teachers from Art, Drama , English and Music and just over 5 weeks of tireless work and dedication from both pupils and teachers they were able to provide their audience with a ‘ true west-end style production’ said one mother from
the cast.

The pupils were able to learn their roles and remember lines to songs on top of a heavy load on school work. One pupil who is currently in year 12 commented saying ‘ The feeling I get on stage is amazing and I love to hear the applause and approval of the audience at the end of my scene. I must admit being in sixth form and being in a musical is very tough but it is rewarding and gives me more motivation to continue with my studies’. Most of the cast from the musical have had experience being on stage and performing to a large audience and say that they are lucky to be in a school with teachers who are as enthusiastic about drama and musical theatre as their pupils. Some pupils feel that the musical was a ‘breath of fresh air’ from their usual work schedules and they hope to participate in the next musical in school. Better get your tickets quick folks! I hear it is going to be even more fabulously and glitzy as the last one!
