This is the second year of Challoner’s got Talent, a spin off the National show Britain’s got talent, aimed at the students at Richard Challoner School. The school set up this event for pupils to showcase their talents: anything from acting to cracking jokes, this is a chance for pupils to reveal their gifts that wouldn’t otherwise be given the recognition and appreciation they deserve.
I had the pleasure of experiencing some of the heats of this event, and found it a very enjoyable experience, that had myself and the crowds watching switching frequently from awe to hysterics. I think it is a great experience for all involved: the judges, audience, or participants taking everyone’s minds off the troubles of school life; whether it was looming exams or fast approaching essay deadlines all were forgotten for one lunch time.
I think that this is a real beneficial scheme that the school has set up. Students who are lacking in confidence or have no faith their abilities suddenly find themselves facing a storm of applause. To many people they realise the full extent of their talents and for others the hope that they too can achieve great things in their lives.
Speaking to one of the impressive performers of last year, he said “Despite failing to get through the heats, I left feeling proud and with a real sense of fulfilment”. With this said I wonder what magic will be witnessed this time!
