Firstly the reason why we litter is because, we as a community, are just too lazy to put our rubbish in the nearest bin as it is much easier for us to just throw it on the floor and walk away. Afterwards, we then hopefully wait for someone to pick it up for us and do the job that we are responsible for. There are approximately 10 or more general waste bins on a busy high street, some in which are separate for recyclable materials.
Is it really that hard for us to walk a couple meters to a bin? Will it not make pedestrians much happier to walk down a clear and odour-free street? Or a hardworking cleaners job much easier? So help our environment by stop littering.
It is polluting the world we live in. Items that are most commonly found on the floor are cigarettes. Cigarettes take an astonishing 12 years to break down, so if this carries on the disappearance of cigarettes will become never-ending. In addition, cigarettes also leach toxic elements such as cadmium, lead, arsenic into our soil and waterways.
We should not be living in a society that accepts litter as it is permanently damaging our environment- unless we make a change now. We do not want our children and our children’s children to live in an un-respected place. We are fortunate to already have a recycling system that consists of thousands of recycling bins that recycle materials such as cardboard, glass, plastics, paper, clothes and more. Nine out of ten households have a kerbside collection point were recycling vans are able to pick up your used materials so they can be sent off to be made into various other useful resources that are used in our everyday lives. Recycling also saves energy in the manufacturing process and reduces landfill. Reduce, reuse, recycle and save the planet!
