For people whom do not usually enjoy musicals, as they do not like the fact that people can spontaneously combust into song during a normal conversation, Les Mis may not be their favourite movie.
Although, nobody can dispute that the quality of singing and theatrics during the film were spectacular. The film has been recognised globally as a masterpiece, collecting many awards (including best supporting actress won by Anne Hathaway who reprised the role her mother formerly played when Anne herself was eight years old).
The movie itself is a roller coaster of emotion, ranging from laughter to tears. Watching it in the cinema the room was filled with stunned silence and the sound of people wailing out in pain! By the end if the film people were standing to give the film an ovation for its magnificence.
Personally I am not usually a musical movie fan, although the film is unlike any other I have seen to this day. The fact that the actors performed the songs live gives the movie a theatrical feel as if it were being performed live in front of your eyes and allowed them to convey the raw emotion that brought the audience to tears.
For many, this was the first encounter into the world of the film based around although for some they had already read or seen the musical at the theater, many of whom regard the film as good although the general consensus was that the heart wrenching play was even better when it unfolds right before your eyes.
Although some opinions may differ but this film is a groundbreaking creation and to see it would be a wise decision it is a must see for this year. Critics have raved about Les Mis calling it ‘riveting’, ‘beautiful’ and ‘relentlessly epic’.
