It has been confirmed that a taxi driver from Mozambique has died after being dragged from the back of a police van before being dragged through the streets of the town Daveyton, which is located close to Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to the local authorities the police first assaulted the man before the event occurred. He was later taken into custody where he died.

The event occurred because the man allegedly parked his vehicle incorrectly in Daytown, then the police handcuffed the man to the back of the police van and drove down the street, dragging the man along the floor behind them. The events were captured by a bystander on his phone, the video was later uploaded onto the internet.

The incident is being looked into by the IPID (Independent Police Investigate Directorate) spokesman Moses Dalamini says. The South African police has been accused on many occasions for improper service, the most notable occasion being the shooting of the miners back in August 2012 in Marikana which resulted in the deaths of 34 miners.
