Getting to the age of 16 is often theorized as something incredibly amazing, as though one more milestone in life has been overcome. Is it the American influence that has appeared within British society, or is it the appearance of more freedom, within one’s reaches that enraptures our young minds?

This thought has puzzled me as many of my friends plan ‘sweet 16 birthday parties’ while some await the chance of getting a job, and others- like me, a provisional driving license. These perks along with many more are being welcomed as a chance to flourish and grow closer to adulthood and to become mature and begin accomplish  our dreams.
But being 16 doesn’t seem to exceed all expectations. After being 16 for nearly a month nothing vaguely extraordinary has crossed my way, except the harsh and incredibly stressful reality that is GCSEs. The pressure begins to become more extreme as the constant reminder is  that it’s  11 weeks, 77 days and roughly 1848 hours, until 16 year olds across the county will be sitting their first dreaded exam.

As the days near to our exams everyone has uncontrollable emotions and thoughts, buts it’s important to stay focused. While many exciting things are said to be coming our way, it seems like taking a path that seems to have more obstacles to cross, so instead of succumbing to the expectation, to then be disappointed we need to focus on what’s more important. It’s just as they say, there’s no point thinking of the future if you can’t secure your present.
