Blockbusters. Haven’t we all been? With its endless rows of DVDs and games to rent, and second-hand ones for sale, it’s like heaven for some. I can confess, I have bought my (small) share of games there every once in a while, either for me or a friend. However, with the blue-fronted stores shutting down all over the country, just like the one in Twickenham High Street, we have forgotten how this will affect the people, the ones who work in these shops, when they will be out of jobs, and we will only be out of cheap DVDs to buy.

So, the inevitable question is: What can we do about it?

I’m not saying you should just avoid Blockbusters altogether; this would be far worse than turning up at the counter with a stack of DVDs and strutting out without a care in the world. Maybe you should just think. How do you seem to these people behind the counter?

Just think; how would you feel if people did this to you? Blockbusters has certainly got a lot busier since the sign were put up, “Everything must go! Total stock liquidation!” Yes, this is a good opportunity to grab that Doctor Who DVD you had your eye on, or Battlefield 3 at far, far cheaper prices than you could get on Amazon, but don’t go crazy. Don’t become (in the words of my father) a vulture. It would probably be best to express your gratitude to the people who work there, say sorry that this is happening to them. Just think.
