Sales of retro-inspired food are on the rise as nostalgia kicks in for the taste of the 70’s. The decade food forgot is making a comeback.

It seems as though Britain’s ‘penchant for the past’ is progressing beyond television and fashion on to our dinner tables.

The leader of the pack, the prawn cocktail, has seen a rise in the sale of the ingredients by up to ninety-five per cent on last year. Included in the comeback are Chicken Kiev’s, Artic Rolls, Lemon Meringue Pie and even Soda Streams. These revised recipes are even featuring on programmes such as The Great British Bake Off. Master Baker and presenter, Paul Hollywood, says “Nowadays, new recipes don’t really exist, what goes around, comes around, just as in music, fashion and art”.

However, bakers and chefs are not the only ones going back in time, bloggers are also embracing the cooking craze, writing about the likes of Watergate salad and Sweet potato casserole.

So what else will be making a comeback in the world of food? Tudor Banquets? Sloppy Joes? One thing we can be sure of is that the future (and past) of food is bright.
