In pictures that have emerged today, Jennifer Lawrence has been photographed smoking a 'suspiciously large roll-up' whilst on holiday in Hawaii. Whilst the 22 year-old actress, who recently won an Oscar for 'Best Actress' in 'Silver Linings Playbook', has not made any comments on the photographs so far, the internet definitely has - both positively and negatively.
Since her breakthrough role in the Hunger Games, it is fair to say Jennifer Lawrence has become another role model for this generation; yet with the revelation of her suspected drug use, will this change? Or is this another case of the media's tendency to overreact?
It's not like this is the first time a young celebrity has been accused of being a bad role model for teenage girls - Demi Lovato, Lindsay Lohan and the late Amy Winehouse have all been in and out of rehab for substance abuse. So what impact has Jennifer Lawrence's 'antics' had on her fanbase?
"Sometimes I think people forget about the fact that Jenn is a human being and not a toy" Charlotte, 19 says. "She is young and who doesn't want to “live young and wild and free”? I really hate the fact that famous people are exposed to the world because every move they make is observed by everyone. They are the ones that make the decisions about their bodies so if they want to smoke weed, they smoke weed."
It seems that Jennifer Lawrence can still be seen as a role model regardless, according to Hannah, 16. "I have never consumed alcohol or any drugs into my body and I hope I never will - just because other celebrities have done it, shouldn't automatically mean people will start doing it and I really hope her talent as an actress doesn't get looked down upon just because of this."
Other, however are less impressed, like Nicola, 17. "Honestly, I’m disappointed. I don’t like the whole weed scene. Although I was a fan and this has made me doubt that, I don't think the press badmouthing her is going to help anyone. I just hope she learns from her mistakes and doesn't influence others to do the same."
