Every year AS level students get invited to one of the biggest University gatherings ever. The UCAS Conference is seen to help build up youngsters mind on whether going to university is the next step for them, doing an apprenticeship or taking a gap year.  This year it was held at the National Hall, in Kensington Olympia with over 150 different universities coming to the event in order to give more information about why they are the best. This happened over 3 days from 27th Feb till 1st March.

Many students where excited and eager to find out about universities they had searched up on and some they had never even heard of.  Not only where there members from a variety of universities, there were also employers from Windows and even the Royal Marines.  This event is seen as an eye opener to give students the opportunities to discuss future career paths and courses they may want to take up and even the financial side to their futures.

At the end of this event, students were all complaining about their arms hurting, as they had many prospectuses to carry, and some even got distracted with other freebies given such as bags, pens or badges!

Quote from a student who had attended- “It was a brilliant opportunity,  and I am very glad to have come, especially because I now know that there a much more universities that do the course I am interested in, so now I am much more relaxed” –Jamila Jan.

I realized that many students did not want to leave their friends behind, despite the fact that they were doing different courses. What we must learn from this conference is that we are all on our own, and want to achieve different things. So it doesn’t matter if you go off looking for better opportunities and experiences, because at the end of the day, it is YOU, pursuing the career YOU want.
