On the evening of Monday 20th September Christ’s School opened its doors to prospective students, mainly youngsters in their last year of primary school. Christ's had plenty to offer including a school tour, a headteacher’s talk and an opportunity to meet teachers. Visitors could also watch demonstrations in the science department, taste food from France and Spain in languages and eat homemade cookies in food tech.

As I made my way back to the school to help as a tour guide, I thought about the open evenings that I had attended before deciding on my choice of secondary school. What really stuck in my mind were the drama departments, especially, the performances I saw. I hoped that I could find something memorable for the students I showed round. In the end it turned out to be the last thing I expected. The group I set off with chose to spend the longest time in Science Department! Then they had to go to the headteacher's talk, so I was left on my own with a pig’s dissected kidney. In the end I stayed there for the rest of the evening, explaining to our future students what a kidney does. This proved to be quite interesting as the reactions to it varied from curiosity to disgust.

Oddly the pig's kidney made my night feel a success as I am sure, whether fascinating or revolting, it will be something to stick in the memory!

I shall be hoping to see a lot of those students at Christs next year!
