Drugs, sex and violence has now been commonly targeted to describe Hounslow’s youth. In the past two years the Hounslow Chronicle has reported over 100 cases of violence that included teenagers from around Hounslow, Isleworth, Heston and Brentford. It has no caused a massive stir and has put teenagers in a bad limelight.
In a report in 2009, the results showed that over 77% of people over the age of 30 associated teenagers who lived in Hounslow, with gangs and violence. They said they felt this way because “Hounslow is such a multicultural society that racism is going to be present especially amongst teenagers and with racism comes violence”. One of the other aspects which have left Hounslow in this position is all down to the media. The media takes a huge toll on what people think about teens, you see in most knife related adverts the people who are committing the crime are 96% teenage males around the ages of 16-17. So due to all this commercialisation, it has programmed us to believe that teenagers are unsafe and a big problem in society.
Also since 2004 it has been documented that in particular young Asian teens are the centre of the targeting. Hounslow is a multicultural society, Hounslow for the past decade has been home to people from around the globe including Indian, Muslims, Caucasian and many other people from different backgrounds and ethnicities. Although this may be a good aspect it certainly has had its toll on the community.
