It has already been pointed out that youth unemployment is at an all time low and the current economical downfall is making it harder for everyone to gain employment however some businesses seem to put youth on the black list purely down to the fact that we lack experience.

It has to be said that in order for me to gain to experience I have to be given the chance to learn and improve.

Surely with this year GCSE results were at all record high this year’s year 12 should be receiving job offers left, right and centre; but that is just not the case.

Of course there are the lucky few that have managed to snap up a job and are learning the skills of juggling A Levels with work.

Rianna, Chestnut Grove Sixth Form, managed to get a job in one of the top retail stores, New Look. She reveals how she managed to get the job, “I went out handing out my CV to every shop that I could. I guess it was just being at the place at the right time. Also first impressions count so go in smiling and look enthusiastic about wanting to work there, you could have the best CV in the world but if you have a sour face management may find it hard to want to employ you.”

Ebony, Kingston College, is currently unemployed and has been handing out her CV for approximately 2 months and has had no luck, she said, “I’ve been going from shop to shop asking if I can hand my CV in and many shops were reluctant to take it or they would tell me to go online. That’s really annoying because there are now jobs in London and if there are jobs they’re hours that I can’t do. I think that’s really stupid and it needs to change.

It’s clear that currently youth employment seems to be down to luck and something needs to change and it needs to happen soon.
