Technology is increasing rapidly. Every day something new is being introduced in the market. We now carry around in our pockets phones which are advanced enough to video chat, find our current location and even download a song from an American website, and all whilst being on the train on the way to work. Many organisations have embraced the advance in technology and have made a turn for the better. Croydon High School has joined them.
Since September, a new school portal has been introduced, a Virtual Learning Environment. The portal has a variety of functions, such as a notice board for sharing information; it allows teachers to upload links, and work, for students to access easily, and it lets students access their homework and upload assignments online.
Doctor Wall, Head of Physics at Croydon High, who has been using the school portal says, ‘It obviously has its pros and cons, but as people become more used to it, attitudes are becoming more positive. I think it is great, because it means I have fewer things to carry home every evening, as I can access everything on the school server from my home computer.’ Lorna Cook, a year 11 student also agrees, ‘The portal makes life a lot easier. I can access my work from home and the extra information such as links and videos, are really helpful.’
