A resident at a care home in Sutton celebrated her 100th birthday with a surprise visit from Joe Wicks.
The celebrity tv presenter, social media personality and author surprised Marjorie Agass at Care UK’s Tennyson Grange care home on March 31.
After seeing the care home residents take part in one of his senior workout exercise classes online, Joe wanted to say thank you and meet his fitness fans in person.
On the day, Joe wished Marjorie a happy birthday and spoke to the other residents about benefits of exercising as we age.
Marjorie was born in 1922 in Nottingham and worked during WWII as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force.
She met husband Ernest there and the couple married in 1947 before moving to London and having three kids – Susan, Valerie and Stephen.
Marjorie and Ernest took their family on many holidays and also lived in Canada for a few years.
Commenting on the day, Marjorie’s children said: “Mum has been talking about have a knees up on her 100th birthday since she turned 89.
“She belonged to a gym until she was 90 and believed in having a healthy lifestyle which also included having a nip of brandy every day.
“She is delighted to have finally reached this milestone”.
The home decorated the lounge with balloons and banners, and the home’s head chef baked birthday cupcakes for everyone.
Jogie Dellota, General Manager at Tennyson Grange, said: “We were delighted to welcome Joe to Tennyson Grange.
“The residents loved getting involved in Joe’s online PE class for our Let’s Get Physical initiative, so it was great for the residents to meet him in person and to help celebrate Marjorie’s 100th birthday.
“It was fantastic to see Marjorie enjoying this incredible milestone with her family and friends.
"It was lovely to hear Marjorie share some very inspiring memories – including a helicopter ride across New York.
“The day was filled with music, cake and lots of laughter – the perfect way to celebrate being 100 years young.
“On behalf of everyone at Tennyson Grange, we want to say a big thank you to Joe for making Marjorie’s day extra special – he is welcome back anytime.”
Tennyson Grange is designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while promoting independence.
